Endorsements

I am happy to endorse Bryan Porter's reelection as Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney.  Throughout his career, Bryan has demonstrated an understanding that preventing crime requires a wholistic approach.  While he is a voice for accountability and enforcement of the law, he has also advocated for  strategies such as investment in early childhood education.  Bryan has fully engaged with the community, from participating in the City's citizen academies to creating an advisory committee for his office.  He understands the critical role that public trust plays in effective law enforcement and has emphasized accountability and transparency through initiatives such as providing open file discovery to all individuals who face criminal charges.  At the same time, he has been a consistent advocate tor victim's rights and promoting legislation and programs that help these individuals see justice and ensure that they are treated with compassion and respect throughout the court process.

I'm pleased to endorse Bryan Porter's reelection campaign for Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney.  During his time as a prosecutor, Bryan has worked to keep our community safe, combat gun violence, and to uphold the rights of victims.  Bryan has also been forward-thinking in promoting initiatives that focus on rehabilitation.  The Alexandria Recovery Court, his office's mental health initiative, and active participation in routine expungement clinics are just a small example of the programs he has championed to provide second chances and connect people with the help they need. — Don Beyer

During my first term as the elected Sheriff for the City of Alexandria, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with Bryan Porter on a number of initiatives that have made our City safer and our court system more fair.  In collaboration with the Clerk of Court, our two offices have ran multiple expungement clinics which help residents in our community clear their record in accordance with the law, to improve their chance at employment.  Similarly, the Sheriff's Office has been a proud participant in the Alexandria Recovery Court, an initiative that has helped divert from incarceration and conviction individuals who commit to substance abuse treatment.  I am proud to endorse Bryan because he is an innovative and forward thinking prosecutor who understands the importance of keeping the community safe, while giving people a second chance.
